Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with Vodafone
A Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) is a long-term agreement between a business and an energy producer (typically renewable energy) that allows the business to purchase electricity directly from a renewable energy project (e.g., wind, solar).
Customer Needs
Vodafone’s goal is to achieve net zero emissions across its full value chain by 2040. In addition to this, a response was required due to the increasing energy costs. Vodafone, called upon Flogas to arrange for a CPPA.
The Solution Delivered by Flogas
Through a successful partnership with Flogas, Vodafone has taken substantial steps toward becoming more sustainable:
Flogas response: Through proactive engagement, innovation and new product+ systems development allowed Flogas to support Vodafone in becoming the first Irish Telco to sign a CPPA in Ireland.
Project Delivery: Flogas supported Vodafone for 18 months from inception, early education, internal alignment, identifying potential wind farm partners, negotiation and as counterparty to the final deal.
Impact: Vodafone and its partner, Vantage Towers, now purchase 30% of their annual electricity consumption from Derrynadivva Wind Farm in Co. Mayo through Flogas. This is a 8.5 MW wind farm which produces 19,000 MWh of clean energy per year - equivalent scale of 4,500 homes.
Flogas learned to implement its solution to the corporate governance requirements of a global organisation like Vodafone with distributed decision making across multiple jurisdictions, areas within the organisation and across multiple organisations.
